Battlefield Return

We provide once in a lifetime experiences for our Veterans and bring them closure by returning to their Battlefields

Why We Return

The Battlefield Return Program takes veterans back to the ground where they served. Our journeys have reached the shores of Normandy, the streets of Holland and Belgium, the islands of the Pacific, and Vietnam. Every journey is fully funded, and each veteran travels with a volunteer caregiver at their side.
For many veterans, going back is a chance to remember the friends they lost, to be thanked by the communities they helped, and to tell their stories in the places where those stories happened. Some find a measure of peace there. All of them are honored.

The program began with a conversation between our co-founder, Donnie Edwards, and a WWII veteran who wanted to see his battlefield one more time. Since 2018, the Best Defense Foundation has returned more than 450 veterans. That work started with the WWII generation and now includes those who served in Vietnam.

The Next Generation Walks Beside Them

On every Battlefield Return, young adults ages 18 to 24 travel with our veterans through the NextGen program. They hear these stories firsthand, in the places where they happened, and carry them forward after the journey ends.

Thank you to our Corporate Partners for their continued support.
